Lifting Athletes to New Heights
Power Jacks products have been utilised to provide a world class training facility for athletes at the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) High Performance Service Centre.
The new High Performance Service Centre, which opened in April 2015, was developed to meet the training requirements of Western Australia’s high performing athletes.
A part of the new facility is a mechanical decline runway. EL ES DE Engineering used two 300kN E-Series Machine Screw Jacks in translating screw configuration, designed and manufactured by Power Jacks, in an innovative approach to deliver a 45m ramp.
At the touch of a button, the runway can go from almost invisible within the floor to being elevated 1.5m high.
Whether elevated or not, it is critical the surface remains firm and stable for athletes safety and performance. Power Jacks screw jacks were the perfect solution, offering precision and reliability, as well as being low maintenance. When in use, the ramp provides those training in specialist pole vault and long jump activities with opportunities to maximise training, and without the inconvenience of a fixed ramp. The elevated ramp allows the pole vaulter to generate a greater speed over a shorter distance; this saves energy which can then be applied in performing the vault.
